STL wins contract for tire testing
Standards Testing Labs Inc. has secured a vehicle tire testing contract for Transport Canada, the government department responsible for transportation policies and regulations in Canada.
Under the pact, STL will perform required commercial and non-passenger vehicle tire testing according to Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards 109 and 119 through March 2008.
Titan hikes stake in Titan Europe
Through a subsidiary, Titan International Inc. gained back some of its stake in Titan Europe P.L.C. for about $7.9 million.
Titan Luxembourg S.A.R.L., a wholly owned subsidiary of Quincy, Ill.-based Titan, bought more than 1.8 million shares of Titan Europe. The deal puts parent Titan's interest in the European company at 17.3 percent, up from 15.4 percent.
Titan International spun off the European company, previously a wholly owned division, in April 2004. Initially Titan retained a 30-percent stake in the unit, but a spokeswoman said Titan Europe issued more shares last year, diluting Titan International's stake.
Trelleborg completes acquisition
Trelleborg A.B. has concluded its acquisition of pipe system specialists Epros GmbH and Epros International Ltd., the Swedish firm announced Jan. 4.
The privately owned Epros operations-with sites in Duisburg, Germany, and St Albans in the United Kingdom-have about 30 employees and annual sales of about $13 million.
Epros is a niche leader in the pipe systems aftermarket, specializing in trenchless repairs, Stockholm, Sweden-based Trelleborg said. The process of sealing leaking pipes and improving structural stability in pipe systems includes the use of EPDM and impregnated polyester fabrics, the company said.
StarChem buys Lanxess TPC unit
StarChem L.L.C. has acquired Lanxess Corp.'s North American textile processing chemicals business unit and will employ major parts of its work force.
The unit has about 380 employees worldwide and sales of about $194 million.
The companies did not disclose the purchase price. The transaction went into effect Jan. 1. StarChem will be headquartered in Wellford, S.C., and is a subsidiary of Star Holdings Inc.
