A growing range of products are demanding higher speed manufacturing to reduce costs. Advances in molding science allow liquid silicone rubber (LSR) properties like shrinkage, compression set and durometer to be modified to meet these enhanced manufacturing requirements. This paper will assess the injection molding parameters of the new Silastic® LSR product line to meet increased processability and high, specialty performance specifications. Newly developed LSRs allow smooth production runs and optimize equipment throughput. The short cycle time allows for more parts to be completed in a day. The long pot life of this new LSR reduces material waste. Dow Corning will share the results of a recently completed Design of Experiment (DOE) conducted to assess the impact of machine parameters on the final properties of this new LSR product line.
