JUNIPER, Fla. (Dec. 11) — Henry Fawcett, former chairman and CEO of Mohawk Rubber Co., died Dec. 8 at the age of 87.
A native of Canton, Ohio, he received a bachelor's degree from Colgate College and also graduated from Harvard Business School. At Colgate, he met and later married Mary Ellen Bloch, whose father was R.E. Bloch, at the time president of Mohawk. Fawcett succeed Bloch as the firm's president and CEO in 1956.
Mohawk at one time had tire plants in Akron and Salem, Va., but closed the Akron factory in 1978. The company was sold in the early 1980s to Danaher Corp. and then to Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. in 1989.
Fawcett was preceded in death by his wife and also by his grandson, Stephen A. Comunale Jr. He is survived by daughters Jane Comunale, Julie Deane and Ellen Tobin, and friend Ruthie Juve.
