NOKIA, Finland (Nov. 22) — Nokian Tyres P.L.C. has opened a mixing and warehouse at its tire plant in Vsevolozhsk, Russia, the second stage of a project begun in 2005.
The start-up and test-run of the first mixing line at the new department was performed in September and the second line now is being installed. Nokian said the mixing department enables the company to produce rubber compounds for tire production locally in Russia and end deliveries from the Nokian factory in Finland.
The mixing capability enables the firm to use the third and the fourth production lines at the tire plant in 2007, and reach the capacity of 4 million tirres by 2008 as planned, said Kim Gran, Nokian president and CEO.
The Vsevolozhsk factory manufactures Nokian-branded passenger tires and winter tires, most of which are sold in Russia and neighboring countries.
Nokian said through the first nine months of 2006 its tire sales in Russia rose about 70 percent above the year-ago level.
