MONTPELIER, Vt. (Nov. 16) — Vermont Gov. Jim Douglas declared himself "very pleased" that International Paper Co. has decided not to use tire-derived fuel at its plant in Ticonderoga, N.Y., just across Lake Champlain from Vermont.
"I pledged that I would hold IP accountable for the results of this test and I am pleased that they have finally made the right decision," Douglas said in a press release.
IP discontinued the planned two-week test burn after only one week, after it became apparent that particulate levels from the burn were too close to legal limits.
