WASHINGTON (Nov. 13)— April 22-28, 2007 has been earmarked for the sixth annual National Tire Safety Week, sponsored every year since 2002 by the Rubber Manufacturers Association. An initiative of the RMA's ongoing "Be Tire SmartùPlay Your PART" program, National Tire Safety Week spotlights the simple steps motorists should take to ensure the peak safety and performance of their tires, such as regular inflation and tread checks. Tire and auto retailers, auto repair facilities and American Automobile Association clubs across the U.S. participate in National Tire Safety Week. The number of outlets participating has taken massive leaps forward every year since the event's inception, an RMA spokesman said. In 2006, some 15,000 outlets took part in promoting National Tire Safety Week, compared with 12,000 in 2005, 8,000-plus in 2004 and about 4,000 in 2003.
