RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (Nov. 6) — ExxonMobil Chemical Corp. and Saudi Basic Industries Corp. are investigating a joint Saudi-based project to make rubber, carbon black and thermoplastic specialty polymers to serve emerging local and international markets.
The materials listed are EPDM, butyl, SBR/BR and thermoplastic olefins.
The two companies said they have begun a feasibility study to define a potential project that would expand their two joint petrochemical ventures at Yanbu and Jubail, Saudi Arabia. Expected project start-up is 2011
The project would use feedstocks allocated by the Ministry of Petroleum & Mineral Resources of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and additional feedstocks from other sources in the Kingdom that will be processed at Saudi Yanbu Petrochemical Co. in Yanbu and Al-Jubail Petrochemical Co. in Jubail.
