DETROIT (Oct. 30) — A nearly four-week old strike against Goodyear is having little or no impact on General Motors Corp. and the Chrysler group, according to the two car makers. Goodyear is Chrysler´s largest tire supplier and GM's second-largest tire supplier.
A GM spokeswoman said Friday the combination of production by Goodyear salaried employees at the tire plants struck Oct. 5 and production by alternate tire suppliers has eliminated potential shortfalls. She did not name the other suppliers but GM's largest supplier is Bridgestone/Firestone and Continental Tire North America ranks third.
A Chrysler spokeswoman says the auto maker is working with Goodyear to assure supplies. "Production has not been impacted and we don't foresee a problem in the short term," she said Friday.
