Two new carbon blacks have been developed for the tire industry. One is for tread applications (SR155) and the other for non-tread applications (SR401). The new tread carbon black has high specific surface area and has been developed for high performance applications. The grade has been shown to give excellent abrasion resistance, improved high frequency behavior (indicating improved traction) and exceptional tear energy while maintaining a good balance of other properties. Studies in various rubber formulations will be presented.
