WASHINGTON (Sept. 5) — BMW Group is recalling 11,600 BMW 5-, 6- and 7-series cars, model year 2006, for faulty lower rubber mounts on the rear shock absorbers.
Rolls-Royce Motors Inc. is recalling 32 Rolls-Royce Phantoms, model year 2006, for the same reason.
On these vehicles, the lower rubber mounts of the rear shock absorbers may not have been manufactured to specifications and may not adhere to their housings within the shock absorbers, possibly causing the bushing to separate from its housing and leading to loss of vehicle control.
Both companies will replace the shock absorbers free of charge. The BMW recall began in July, the Rolls-Royce recall in August, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
