NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 30)—Bridgestone/Firestone will begin generating steam heat from a local landfill to provide the energy needs for its Wilson County, N.C., tire plant.
BFS said it signed a deal with Methane Credit L.L.C., a renewable energy developer, to convert methane gas from the landfill into steam heat. As part of the deal, BFS will buy the steam heat at a stable price, compared with the volatile price of natural gas. Methane Credit will provide the infrastructure to capture the gas.
Methane gas that is not captured can contribute to global warming, BFS said.
