AKRON (Aug. 15)—Maurizio Boiocchi, senior vice president and director of research and development for tires at Pirelli Pneumatici S.p.A., will give the keynote address at ITEC 2006, in Akron Sept. 12-14.
Boiocchi's speech will be a highlight of the event, sponsored by Rubber & Plastics News and held at the John S. Knight Center in Akron. The program features a variety of papers for tire industry participants, and an exhibition by suppliers.
A 36-year veteran of Pirelli, Boiocchi is known for his role in helping the company become a force in high and ultra-high performance passenger tires. He joined the firm as a tire engineer, and later served as manager of advanced car tire development; in charge of car tire R&D; and as director of R&D and a member of the management board at Pirelli Germany. He took his current post in 2001.
Under Boiocchi's leadership Pirelli developed such notable products as the P6, P6000, PZero, Scorpion Zero and Winter Sport tires. He also played a key role in the development of the innovative mixing process, CCM (Continuous Compound Mixing), and the automated manufacturing system for tires called MIRS (Modular Integrated Robotized System).
