MIDLAND, Mich. (Aug. 8) — Dow Corning Corp. and Wacker Chemie A.G.'s joint venture in China has received approval from the Chinese government to build a siloxanes manufacturing plant in China.
Dow Corning (Zhiangjiagang) Co. Ltd. — the name of the joint firm — will build the plant in Jiangsu Province; land preparation and early construction already is under way. Siloxane is a key starting material for the production of silicones.
Dow Corning and Wacker also established another joint venture to set up a fumed silica plant on the same integrated site. Under the agreement, Dow Corning will be responsible for the construction and development of the siloxanes unit and Wacker for the fumed silica plant.
