OWOSSO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (Aug. 1) — American Recycling Center Inc., a manufacturer of premium rubber granules for running tracks and playground surfaces, has purchased the abandoned, 80,000-sq.-ft. plant of Regal Plastics Inc. for an undisclosed amount.
The Regal Plastics facility had been closed since early 2004. The plant is expected to reopen shortly with about 20 employees, and the company expects to have 30-35 workers at full production, according to Justin Horvath, economic development program manager for the Shiawassee Area Chamber of Commerce.
American Recycling had been seeking a new facility since March, when a fire damaged its old plant in Linwood, Mich., Horvath added.
Larry Fisher, president of American Recycling, could not be reached for comment. The company Web site said American Recycling uses only high-quality industrial black scrap rubber, such as EPDM, SBR and natural rubber, for its granules, and that it can custom-grind to any granulate size for any purpose.
