CINCINNATI (July 18) — Goodyear and the United Steelworkers union have agreed to extend their current labor agreement beyond the July 22 expiration, the company announced.
Under the terms of the day-to-day extension agreement, either party can terminate the extension by providing a 72-hour notice.
On June 30, the USW selected Michelin North America Inc.´s BF Goodrich tire manufacturing unit as the target for the 2006 round of master contract bargaining. The USW is negotiating with Michelin for an agreement that will serve as a template for contracts with other tire makers.
Contracts between the union and Michelin and Bridgestone/Firestone expire July 22 as well, but no extensions have been announced yet.
Talks between Goodyear and the USW will continue in Cincinnati, the Akron tire maker said.
