SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (June 21) — Officials of the Rubber Manufacturers Association are at a Firestone Complete Auto Care facility in Springfield today, as part of a four-day Midwestern tour promoting proper tire care and tire safety.
The tour began June 20 at a Goodyear Auto Center in Mission, Kansas, outside Kansas City. It will continue June 22 at a Big O Tires store in Indianapolis, and finish June 23 at Golden Valley American Car Care Center in Minneapolis June 23.
Proper tire care can save motorists up to nine cents on every gallon of fuel they buy, the RMA said, yet 81 percent of motorists don´t follow proper procedures to check their tire pressure. Twenty-seven percent of passenger cars and 32 percent of light trucks, minivans and sport utility vehicles have at least one underinflated tire, the association added, citing statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
