STEWARTVILLE, Minn. (June 5) — Catheter and medical device manufacturer Rochester Medical Corp. has closed on the acquisition of assets of Coloplast A/S and Mentor Corp.´s urology business, the company announced June 5.
Rochester made both purchases in relation to sales of male external catheters in the United Kingdom. The assets include Clear Advantage, Freedom, Freedom Plus, and Transfix brands of MECs.
The transactions include Mentor Medical´s U.K. dispensing appliance contractor license and its sales offices and warehouse facility in Lancing, England. The recently formed Rochester Medical Ltd. now owns, staffs, and operates the facility.
Rochester also has entered into a global supply agreement under which it will supply silicone MECs to Coloplast to be sold under Coloplast´s brands worldwide except for the U.K. Coloplast will supply Rochester with its requirements of latex MECs which the company now sells in the U.K. under its newly acquired Freedom and Freedom Plus brands.
In addition, Rochester acquired certain operating assets of Mentor´s Anoka, Minn., silicone MEC manufacturing facility. Rochester Medical and Mentor have terminated the patent license granted under prior agreements between the parties, and Mentor has conveyed to Rochester all intellectual property exclusively related to the manufacturing and sale of silicone MECs at the Anoka facility.
"We are very pleased to have closed these strategic transactions," said Anthony J. Conway, Rochester CEO and president. "I look forward to continued growth and success."
