CLERMONT-FERRAND, France (May 30) — The funeral of Michelin CEO Edouard Michelin, who died May 26 at age 42 of drowning, will be take place May 31 at 2:30 p.m. central European time at Cathedral de Clermont-Ferrand.
Due to limited space in the cathedral, only those with printed invitations will be allowed in, Michelin said in a posting on its Web site. The mass will be transmitted outside the cathedral on the Place of the Victoire.
A private burial service will follow.
French authorities are still investigating the boating accident, which happened the afternoon of May 26 in the Atlantic Ocean off the French Brittany coast.
Michelin´s body was recovered later that same day by the French Coast Guard near the island of Sein, according to French news reports. The authorities have discovered the sunken boat, but his companion on the boat, the president of a regional fishing committee, has not been located.
A memorial fund in Michelin´s honor is being established to benefit the families of sailors lost at sea, the company said.
Michelin, son of former managing partner Francois Michelin and great-grandson of company co-founder Edouard Michelin, has been chairman since 1999, when he succeeded his father. He was the youngest of four brothers.
He is survived by his wife Cecille, six children, his father Francois, three brothers and two sisters.
