NOVI, Mich. (May 10) — Cooper-Standard Automotive Inc. said it will close its Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, aluminum and steel tube manufacturing facility in this year´s third quarter. It will transfer production to other Cooper-Standard fluid facilities in North America.
The closing was necessitated to cut back on excess capacity following the February acquisition of ITT Industries Inc.´s automotive fluid handling systems business, according to Larry Beard, president of Cooper-Standard´s Global Fluid Systems unit.
"This consolidation will improve our utilization levels and strengthen the portfolio of products manufactured at our other North American fluid facilities," Beard said.
The Sault Ste. Marie plant employs about 65.
