WILTON, Conn. (April 28) — General Electric Co.´s advanced materials business will start marketing its NXT silane coupling agents — used in the production of low rolling resistance tires — under GE´s "ecomagination" strategic initiative.
GE said NXT silanes meet the environmental and operating performance criteria for its ecomagination initiative, in part, by demonstrating the ability to help tire companies streamline their manufacturing processes in ways that reduce material, equipment, labor and energy costs.
GE also said NXT Low V silanes make it possible to reduce the emission of volatile organic compounds in both the manufacturing and use of tires made with silica. Future generation NXT silanes are expected later this year, GE said.
Announced in May 2005, ecomagination is GE´s attempt to address society´s challenges, such as the need for cleaner, more efficient sources of energy, reduced emissions and abundant sources of clean water in ways that enable both GE and its customers to be successful businesses.
For a product to be certified in the ecomagination initiative it must "improve the customer´s environmental and operating performance significantly and measurably."
