TIMISOARA, Romania (March 21)—Continental A.G. is boosting the mixing capacity at its Timisoara passenger tire plant, ordering a third intermeshing internal mixer from Italy's Techint-Pomini.
This is the third identical line for the Timisoara factory, which opened in 1999 as satellite "modular manufacturing process" unit with no on-site mixing. The first two units were model 275 VIC (Variable Intermeshing Clearance) mixers, with 281-liter chamber volume, equivalent to about 192 kilograms of mixed rubber, according to Techint-Pomini literature.
The companies didn't disclose the value of the orders.
The mixing lines also use TDE11 (Twin Dump Extruder) leading directly to batch-off, Techint-Pomini said. The Italian firm also is supplying complete automation system, controlling the whole lines, based on Beckhoff hardware and Pomini software.
The Timisoara plant, operated by Continental Automotive Products S.R.L., is rated at 22,000 units a day.
