CARLSBAD, Calif. (Feb. 27) — Yulex Corp. President Jeffrey Martin is in Melbourne, Australia, this week, talking to possible partners to establish guayule plantations in Queensland, New South Wales and Western Australia, according to a company spokeswoman.
Although it´s too early to announce any deals, there is a great deal of interest in Australia about growing the latex-bearing desert shrub there, the spokeswoman said. "The climate in Australia is perfect for guayule, and farmers want a new crop there," she said.
Yulex holds the exclusive license from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to make and sell hypoallergenic guayule latex for medical products using the USDA´s patented technology. Guayule is native to Mexico and the U.S. Southwest.
