CARY, N.C. (Feb. 3) — Dow Chemical Co.´s UCAR Emulsion Systems unit has opened a "next-generation" latex facility at its St. Charles Operations site in Hahnville, La.
The St. Charles latex plant will replace existing sites in Tucker, Ga., and Garland, Texas, which are scheduled for closing by Union Carbide Corp. later this year. Both Union Carbide and UCAR are subsidiaries of the Dow Chemical Co.
The new facility is part of the companies´ multi-year, $100-million staged investment plan in North American operations announced early in 2004, Dow said.
"This new facility reflects our commitment to invest in production assets that match customer, community and North American needs for the next 20 years," said Thayne Hansen, business director, UES. "We are excited about working with our customers to capture the expanded production and process technology benefits imbedded in this new plant. St. Charles operations reflects our continued commitment to latex applications."
