Taiwan tire maker Maxxis International is building technical centers in the U.S., Taiwan and China as part of an expansion of its worldwide research and development capabilities.
The U.S. tech center will be built at the company's U.S. headquarters in Suwanee, Ga., and will replace a smaller facility in nearby Norcross, Ga., Maxxis said. The one-story, 25,600-sq.-ft. center will open in June.
In Asia, Maxxis International has completed work on a six-story, 143,182-sq.-ft. center near Shanghai, China, where it anticipates employing 200 engineers. Plans also call for the construction of a world-class proving ground nearby, expected to open in 2008, Maxxis said.
In Taiwan Maxxis is building a three-story, 56,694-sq.-ft. facility scheduled for completion in June. Like the Shanghai center, it will employ 200 engineers, Maxxis said.
The firm didn't reveal the cost of the tech centers.
Maxxis International, previously known as Cheng Shin Rubber Industrial Co. Ltd., is the world's 13th largest tire maker, with 2004 sales of $983.3 million, according to the Rubber & Plastics News Global Tire Company Rankings.
