WATERFORD, N.Y. (Jan. 18)—General Electric Co.'s silicones plant at Waterford may lay off an unspecified number of workers as part of a cost-cutting program, according to the company.
The factory still is working on cost-cutting issues, but expects to take a number of cost-cutting measures including layoffs, a company spokesman said. Howard Connors, president of IUE-CWA Local 380 which organizes the Waterford facility, could not be reached for comment, but he told a local newspaper that GE management had approached him about possible job cuts.
The GE plant in Waterford, which employs about 1,000, makes adhesives, sealants, resins, water repellents and other silicone materials.
