GREENVILLE, S.C. (Dec. 29)—Michelin North America Inc. is recalling about 6,500 Michelin Pilot Sport tires in the U.S. and Canada because of possible blisters on the sidewalls of the tires.
Michelin said it notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Transport Canada of the recall, which applies to size 255/35ZR20 97Y Extra Load. The problem is ordinarily noticeable as a blister on the sidewall that could produce vibration in the tire. That might result in a rapid loss of air pressure, which could lead to a loss of control and possible crash, the tire maker said.
No injuries have been reported in North America as a result of the problem, Michelin said. Most of the recalled tires were distributed in the U.S. with only about 400 distributed in Canada.
The recalled tires were original equipment on some trims of the Jaguar XJ8 and in the replacement market. They were made at Michelin's plant in Cataroux, France. Michelin will replace all affected tires
