TORONTO (Dec. 19) — Marvin Sherkin is retiring as president and CEO of Biltrite Industries after 43 years with the Toronto-based rubber custom mixer and compounder.
"Marvin has excelled at establishing positive working relationships with all of Biltrite Industries employees, suppliers and customers," the company said in a statement. "His enthusiastic leadership and tireless energy will be missed."
Sherkin´s departure, effective this month, also prompted several changes in Biltrite´s management team.
James Chung takes over as chief operating officer after serving as chief financial officer. As CFO, he has been active in the day-to-day operations of the company and implementing procedures and best practices that are currently in place at the firm.
Tom Lennox becomes vice president of sales and marketing. He has been in the chemical and rubber industry for more than 30 years, having previously served as chairman of the Rubber Chemistry Division of the Chemical Institute of Canada, chairman of the Ontario Rubber Group and as a director of the ACS Rubber Division.
Glen Spooner has been promoted to vice president of technical and quality assurance. He previously was chairman of Biltrite´s Quality Steering Committee and was in charge of the research and development and lab and technical departments.
Maurice Lemieux continues as general manager and becomes vice president for the firm's Findlay, Ohio, plant and operations. He joined Biltrite in 2001 after a 32-year career at Goodyear.
