WAUKESHA, Wis. (Nov. 11) — NIBA-The Belting Association raised almost $25,000 for hurricane victims through a silent auction at the organization´s annual convention, held Oct. 9-12 in Phoenix, Ariz.
NIBA´s convention had originally been scheduled for New Orleans in mid-September but was cancelled due to hurricane damage. However, the association was able to relocate its convention to Phoenix in a month.
"Katrina caused a change in our association´s plans, and it seemed right that we should help those who were affected so much more than we were," according to Ted Lushch, NIBA´s president in 2005 and vice president of Jerry Bros. Industries Inc. "Our members were very generous in their donations to the auction and in their spirited bidding on auction night."
The NIBA board of directors has decided to split the donation among the Red Cross, the Salvation Army and Katrina.com.
