Dr. Thor L. Smith, a polymer researcher noted for his pioneering studies of the basic engineering properties of elastomers and glassy polymers, will be inducted into the International Rubber Science Hall of Fame Nov. 18.
Thor, who died in 1999 at age 79, was a researcher at the IBM Almaden Research Center. A symposium in his honor will be held at the Goodyear Polymer Center, sponsored by the University of Akron's Maurice Morton Institute of Polymer Science and the ACS Rubber Division. Six speakers will give presentations at the symposium.
