PITTSBURGH (Aug. 31)—Contract talks between with the United Steelworkers (USW) and Rodos Giants L.L.C have been delayed as union officials analyze pension data submitted by Rodos.
The USW and Rodos were scheduled to meet Aug. 24 but the union canceled because it had received the requested information from Rodos late, according to USW Local 890L Chairman John Bowling. No further meetings are scheduled.
The delay in talks means Continental Tire North America Inc.'s letter of intent to sell its Bryan, Ohio, off-the-road tire plant to Rösler Group, parent of Rodos, is on hold. Conti had extended the deal's closing date to Aug. 31 after talks between Rodos and the union reached a stalemate in July.
Bowling said he and International Steelworker officials held discussions with Conti officials this week in Pittsburgh on preliminary effects of severance should Conti sell the Bryan facility as planned.
