Avon Rubber P.L.C. has bought International Safety Instruments Inc., a Lawrenceville, Ga.-based maker of respiratory protection equipment and thermal imaging systems.
The acquisition for an undisclosed amount is a key element of the growth strategy for the newly created Avon Protection Systems division, Avon said.
The new division was set up to serve the respiratory protection needs of those who have to make the first response to chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear attack globally, Avon said. APS, which makes such products, builds on Avon's long track record in design and manufacture of NBC respirators, the firm said.
The deal combines Avon's facepiece-design capacity, materials-development experience and filtration technologies with ISI's pneumatics, heads-up display, telemetry and communications integration achievements, said APS Managing Director Jonty Palmer. The complementary nature of the two firm's products will give the company development opportunities, he said.
Fire fighters, military personnel, law enforcement officers and emergency medical personnel increasingly require flexible protection from their equipment, Avon said. ISI has long experience and a reputation for innovation in self-contained breathing apparatus and related technologies.
Headquartered in metro Atlanta, ISI has five regional offices in North America and more than 150 distributors throughout the world.
