AKRON (July 1)—Rubber industry veteran R. Steven Brust, who most recently served as technical manager for Akrochem Corp., died June 27 at a hospice care center following complications from a debilitating disease.
Brust, 52, suffered from short bowel syndrome
He graduated from the University of Akron with a bachelor of science degree in 1974 and worked in the rubber industry for over 30 years. He grew up in the Akron area, graduating from Stow High School in 1970.
After graduating from Akron, Burst worked as a compounder for Eaton Corp. until 1981 when he joined Gates Rubber Co., working in product research and development, initially in Denver, Colo., and later in Brenham, Texas.
He left Gates and joined Akrochem as technical services manager in 1993.
Brust is survived by his wife of 25 years, Karen, and their two teenage children, Robbie and Carrie.
