TOKYO (May 19)—Toyo Tire & Rubber Co. Ltd. plans to boost output this year of larger diameter passenger and light truck tires at its Kuwana, Japan, plant by 1.12 million units to meet rising overseas demand.
Toyo will spend about $26 million to support the expanded capacity, the firm said.
The expansion is part of the firm's overall manufacturing buildup, which includes the new factory in Bartow County, Ga., and expanding joint venture operations in China.
The 26-year-old Kuwana facility also makes truck, farm and industrial tires.
