SAN ANTONIO, Texas (May 18)—John Boruta of Rhein Chemie Corp. has been selected to lead the ACS Rubber Division as chairman in 2007, the organization announced during its May 16-18 meeting in San Antonio.
The division also reported it had 401 registrants for its spring meeting, and was in the black for its last two-year financial cycle.
Boruta, currently secretary of the association, officially was nominated as chairman-elect for 2006. The division hierarchy last year changed the election rules so they, in effect, can appoint the future chairman.
After a year as chairman-elect, Boruta will be nominated, unopposed, to be chairman in 2007. This year's chairman-elect, Andy Claytor of Teknor Apex Co., will be chairman in 2006, succeeding the current chairman, David O´Brien of Excel Polymers L.L.C.
The attendance at the San Antonio meeting topped that of any of the previous four spring meetings, according to O´Brien. The next division meeting is the 2005 Rubber Expo in Pittsburgh, and Akron is the site of the 2006 spring meeting.
Treasurer Al Feit of Goodyear reported the division ended its 2003-2004 fiscal cycle nearly $74,000 in the black. In comparison, the organization had a $484,000 shortfall for the 2001-2002 cycle.
