SHANGHAI, China (April 4)—Goodyear is establishing its Asian/Pacific headquarters in Shanghai and stepping up efforts to procure more materials from China for its global operations.
Pierre E. Cohade, president of Goodyear's Asia-Pacific region, is taking up residence in Shanghai in advance of the firm opening its office. Cohade joined Goodyear in October 2004, bringing with him nearly 20 years international experience with Eastman Kodak, including two years as head of Kodak's Asia-Pacific region.
Goodyear also named John Tseng chairman and president of Goodyear Greater China. Tseng previously was corporate vice president and general manager, digital and film imaging systems for Eastman Kodak's North Asia operations. Mike Martens, previously managing director for Goodyear in China, has been named director of business development for Asia-Pacific, responsible for regional business development.
Regarding procurement, Goodyear said it intends to increase its purchases of materials and/or equipment from China about 10-fold through 2010, to the point China represents about 10 percent of the firm's annual expenditures on materials, up from 1 percent currently.
