NLRB certifies vote results against union
The National Labor Relations Board has certified the results of July's representation election at Continental Tire North America Inc.'s plant in Mount Vernon, Ill., in which workers voted against union representation.
Production and maintenance workers voted 807-747 against having the United Steelworkers of America as their bargaining agent, with the 41 challenged ballots not sufficient to change the outcome of the vote. The USWA contested the results, and the NLRB regional director recommended the objections be overruled, which the NLRB confirmed.
ISP in black with rubber business
International Specialty Holdings Inc.'s synthetic elastomers business-the former Ameripol Synpol Corp.-was $7.4 million in the black on an operating basis last year, reversing a loss from fiscal 2003.
The company said sales for the unit hit $170.1 million, up significantly over the production-curtailed year 2003, when ISP bought certain rubber assets of Ameripol Synpol during the firm's Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection process. Ameripol Synpol generated sales of $110 million and $187 million in 2002 and 2001, its last two full years of business
Performance Fibers to add site in China
Performance Fibers said it will build a second polyester fiber and fabric plant in Kaiping, China, to meet demand from China's growing automotive market.
Performance Fibers, formerly part of Honeywell International, said the facility will come on stream in the first quarter of 2006, doubling its annual production capacity for dimensionally stable polyester in China to 60,000 metric tons.
Airbus extends pact for Goodyear tire
European airframe manufacturer Airbus S.A.S. has extended a multiyear contract with Goodyear for the supply of aviation tires for six wide-body and single-aisle Airbus aircraft models.
Goodyear will supply Flight Leader tires for the Airbus A300 and 310 models as well as Flight Radial and Flight Leader tires for the single-aisle family, the A318, A319, A320 and A321.
Airlines operating the A320 on Goodyear tires include Lufthansa and Air Canada.
