MIDDLEBURY, Conn. (March 7)—Crompton Corp. has begun outsourcing distribution of rubber and rubber chemicals to its smaller customers in North America to ChemPoint.com, a Bellevue, Wash.-based "e-distributor" of specialty and fine chemicals.
Crompton is changing its method of distribution to reduce costs and improve service to its smaller accounts, according to Richard Owins, vice president, EPDM and rubber chemicals for Crompton's Performance Chemicals and Elastomers business. The change was effective March 1; it affects more than half of the firm's sales base, Owins said.
The decision was influenced by recent restructuring and streamlining efforts that made it more effective for Crompton to partner with a distributor, the company said. The outsourcing agreement covers all of Crompton's product lines.
ChemPoint also provides high-quality customer care, technical support and personalized service to this market segment. The agreement with ChemPoint enables Crompton to focus its resources on its strategic account base, the firms said.
Founded in May 1999, ChemPoint is a subsidiary of Univar N.V. of the Netherlands, which claims to be the largest independent chemical distributor in the world.
