LAVERGNE, Tenn. (Feb. 25)—The Environmental Protection Agency has recognized Bridgestone/Firestone's LaVergne tire plant for strong environmental performance, joining five other BFS facilities in that distinction.
The Tennessee factory was accepted into the EPA's National Environmental Performance Track program, which rewards and recognizes companies that show a commitment to environmental performance that goes beyond current requirements. To gain acceptance, the plant fulfilled a number of requirements, including maintaining records of sustained compliance with environmental regulations and setting up safeguards to reduce environmental impacts.
Four other BFS facilities—Des Moines, Iowa; Warren County, Tenn.; Aiken County, S.C.; and Oklahoma City—joined the program in 2000. The fifth, Bloomington, Ill., joined in 2003.
