CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Feb. 22)—Continental Tire North America Inc. will close its Akron Test Center May 31 as part of a restructuring move.
The closing will affect 20 employees, who will be offered severance packages and additional outplacement assistance, Conti said. The company did not say what costs it will incur related to the closing or what savings it anticipates.
The activities and most of the equipment at the Akron site will be transferred to Continental's primary testing location in Europe. The center primarily tested tires for endurance.
"I want to thank the employees at our Akron facility for their years of service and dedication to Continental," said Martien de Louw, president and CEO for Continental Tire North America. "Our customers and business partners will continue to receive the same level of service they've come to expect from us."
Conti said the consolidated expertise and technologies will ensure the same response time and service to customers.
