TRELLEBORG, Sweden (Feb. 22)—Trelleborg A.B. is buying machinery and other assets from Metso Minerals' Wear Protection & Conveying business to add to its marine fenders business.
Trelleborg claims the deal will strengthen its position as "a leading supplier of fender products and systems to harbor facilities throughout the world."
The addition of the Metso business will add about $7 million in annual sales to Trelleborg's Engineered Systems division and will have a positive effect on earnings in fiscal 2005. The acquisition, for an undisclosed amount, gives Trelleborg access to the Trellex Fenders brand, which the Swedish group had sold to Metso forerunner Svedala Industri 18 years ago.
The Metso assets will be integrated with Trelleborg's global marine fender operations, most of the equipment going into the Singapore unit that Trelleborg acquired in 2001 with its purchase of the Fentek operation, according to a Trelleborg spokesperson.
