ELGIN, Ill. (Feb. 1)—Specialty seals manufacturer SKF Chicago Rawhide is upgrading the weighing and mixer feeding systems at its plant in Elgin, according to mixing room equipment supplier Chronos Richardson, which secured an order for more than $500,000 worth of materials-handling systems for the project.
"We evaluated and ran material trials with the Chronos Clean-Feed system and we were impressed with the weighing accuracies witnessed," Christopher Kent, SKF Chicago Rawhide's polymer compounding department manager, said in a Chronos statement.
Kent noted that Chronos' Clean-Feed vacuum-conveying system can be adapted and reconfigured as raw material and compound requirements change.
The Clean-Feed systems will handle a range of carbon black and white fillers delivered in sacks and Supasacks, Chronos said. SKF Chicago Rawhide will produce its precision compounds using specially sized vacuum scales for varying batch sizes.
The SKF A.B. division also is using Chronos equipment for high accuracy preparation of small chemicals in both liquid and powdered form.
