BIG SPRING, Texas (Jan. 24)—Sid Richardson Carbon & Energy Co. will build a 24-megawatt power plant at the firm's carbon black manufacturing facility in Big Spring.
The power plant will use energy from a by-product gas stream of the carbon black process to make electricity for internal consumption and export to the utility market. The $28 million project, expected to be operation by April 2006, normally will generate 21 megawatts per hour of electricity, of which about half will be used internally, the company said.
