DETROIT (Jan. 24)—Jeffrey Runge, administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration during President Bush's first term, expects to stay on in that role through Bush's second term.
Runge told reporters at the Automotive News World Congress that Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta had asked him to stay on. However, he added that as a member of the President's "commissioned officer corps," he might be moved to another government position, without explaining further. A NHTSA spokesman said the agency had no comment beyond what Runge had already said.
