SALEM, Va. (Jan. 18)—Yokohama Tire Corp. and the United Steelworkers of America Local 1023 have reached a tentative agreement on a new labor contract for the company's Salem tire plant.
The agreement—settled on Jan. 15—now is pending a ratification vote by Local 1023 members.
The previous six-year contract expired in June 2003 and was extended as negotiations took place. Pacts with Goodyear and Michelin North America Inc. have been ratified since tire industry talks began in 2003, with Bridgestone/Firestone talks still pending.
Terms of the new tentative agreement are confidential, Yokohama said. Dates for the ratification votes have not yet been determined.
The Salem factory produces passenger, high performance and light truck tires.
