SRI LANKA (Jan. 11)—The joint owner of the industrial tire maker Solideal Co., which operates a tire plant on Sri Lanka, has helped set up an aid fund to help villagers on that island nation who were affected by the recent tsunami.
The organization, Adoptsrilanka.com, is set up specifically to help the people of these villages in an effort to complement international and government relief efforts already under way.
Pierre Pringiers, a Belgian national who is joint owner of Solideal—which does business on Sri Lanka as Loadstar Pvt. Ltd.—teamed up with a Sri Lankan food producer and a hotel/villa owner to set up the fund. The group promotes itself as having intimate knowledge of the local situation and the energy, contacts and motivation to put help quickly where it is needed.
