The paper describes that many commercially available accelerators for vulcanization such as dithiocarbamate, thiuram and thiazole can be used in the compounding of synthetic polyisoprene latex developed by Medline Industries, Inc. No special curing packages are needed. Existing machineries for natural rubber products are often found to be suitable for the manufacturing of the synthetic polyisoprene products. The practiced art and technology to make the cis-1, 4-polyisoprene polymer and latex are also covered. Synthetic polyisoprene latex is made from dissolving cis-polyisoprene polymer in a solvent and emulsifying the dissolved polymer with surfactants and water and then removing the solvent. The synthetic latex is chemically similar to natural rubber latex and contains a very low level of non-polyisoprene constituents. Best of all, it is synthetic and has no life-threatening Type I allergen associated with natural rubber latex protein.
