EVERETT, Wash. (Dec. 13)—The Boeing Co. has selected Bridgestone Corp. as the tire supplier to its new 7E7 Dreamliner aircraft.
Each 7E7 will have 10 tires—two for the nose landing gear and four on each main landing gear—and the tires on the aircraft will feature high-strength, high-elasticity cord that is also weight-efficient and wear-resistant, Boeing said. There was no word on the number of initial orders for the 7E7, but Boeing said Bridgestone also supplies tires for many other Boeing models, including the 737, 747-400, 767 and 777.
The aircraft maker said it plans to certify a second tire supplier soon for the 7E7, for the convenience of airlines buying replacement tires, but didn't indicate when it would do so or who the second supplier might be.
