DUBLIN, Ohio (Dec. 9)—Cardinal Health Inc. plans to sell its remaining rubber latex examination glove manufacturing plant and outsource production of the product.
The move will result in the elimination of about 1,000 jobs.
The factory, located in Penang, Malaysia, will cease production within the next 18 months, a company spokeswoman said. During that span, the facility will likely be sold, she said.
The majority of Cardinal Health´s examination gloves are currently outsourced, primarily to contract manufacturers in China. The company will remain a major player in the examination glove business, she said.
"We´re closing the operation because costs of running the plant are going up and exam glove prices are going down," which did not make it cost-effective facility, the spokeswoman said
