NORCROSS, Ga. (Nov. 30)—A tire adjuster at a Bridgestone/Firestone warehouse in Norcross has been charged with allegedly selling recalled Firestone Steeltex tires his employer intended to have destroyed, according to the Gwinnett County district attorney's office.
John L. Strong also is accused of taking adjusted tires without permission from the Norcross warehouse and selling them out of his home. Investigators found some 400 recalled and adjusted tires at Strong's home in Norcross and at a nearby storage facility, according to the D.A.'s office.
Gwinnett Country Prosecutor Danny Porter said Strong faces as many as 400 misdemeanor counts, and could be sentenced to one year in jail and a $5,000 fine for each count. Strong did not return phone calls made to his home. BFS recalled some 297,000 Steeltex tires last February.
