AKRON (Nov. 1)—Polymer researcher Frederic S. Kipping, whose work in 1904 sparked the development of silicone polymers, will be inducted into the International Rubber Science Hall of Fame Nov. 12.
The event features a day-long symposium at Goodyear Polymer Center at the University of Akron.
Kipping (1863-1949) performed his early work on the chemistry of polysiloxanes in 1904, while at the University of Nottingham in England. That work sparked the development of what today is a multibillion dollar business.
